This one may be a bit didactic, but, hey, I am a teacher (and a director).
Acting Notes
The Great Director studies
his clipboard then addresses
his cast of billions:
Not bad for a first run through,
but this was final dress-
and we’re running out of time.
Here are some general thoughts;
apply them as you will.
1. Breath, support. Breath, support.
Support what you say
or you’ll never be heard
and ruin your voice as well.
2. Stay open and share
what you have. Be seen.
Don’t hide and hoard.
You know what I said about
your light and the bushel.
3. Be there for each other.
Hit your entrances and
your exits. Know where you’re
coming from and going to –
and know when to leave
and when to stay.
4. True acting is listening,
not shouting at each other.
Listen even when it’s
not your scene. Keep quiet
off stage. It’s called respect.
5. There are no stars in this show.
We’re all in this together.
Drama is conflict but
theater is cooperation
and all the world’s a stage.
Break a leg. Let’s hope
we have a hit on our hands.
