Concerto Grosso: Between the Movements

I went to a classical concert at the Kennedy Center last night.  Half the audience seemed to have colds, so that after every movement, we were treated to a mini-concert of throat clearing, hacking, and wheezing.  (Tchaicoughsky, perhaps?)  This caused me to revisit and rewrite an older poem.  Do you think it stands on its own without this little intro?

                                       Concerto Grosso: Between the Movements
                                    The coughmaster sounds the initial note;
                                    then others answer him from every corner
                                    of the concert hall, singly at first
                                    and then in whole sections- reedy rasps
                                    brassy barks, and phlegmy tympani.
                                    After this ragged tuning reaches a hoarse
                                    crescendo, a final snare-like sneeze- and then silence.
                                    The conductor raises his baton.
