Another gloomy power outage poem. Sorry about that, but it was very annoying hearing the battery back-ups to our phone (FIOS) and security systems beep and beep to let us know their batteries are dying when there is nothing we can do about it. (They're dying because there is a blackout, and we have no electricity to offer them.)
Digital Dirges
During the blackout, the FIOS battery
kept beeping its four beat message
“I am dy-ing…I am dy-ing…I am dy-ing”
to which the security alarm added
its intermittent two note counterpoint.
“A-lone……A-lone……A-lone…..A-lone”
Why should they keep reminding us
of what we already know
and are powerless to change?
For that matter, why should I?
One month down, five to go!
