The Dieters' Lament

A light poem about a weighty matter.

                                           The Dieters’ Lament

Calories should not count after sundown.
Even Ramadan requires no more than
a daylight fast. After twelve hours of
being holy, we swear this doughnut will
be our last. To deny us that is just
not fair. If a sinner can be blessed for
                            a deathbed conversion, can’t a saint be
                            forgiven an eleventh hour éclair?
