Line of Thought

We saw an interesting exhibit on the use of line in all sorts of art at MoMA.  Here's a largely free associative poem about different sorts of lines.

                                                 Line of Thought
Have you ever watched a power line
dance from pole to pole as you drive
past them in your car (as a passenger-
the driver  must keep his eyes on the road,
risking white line fever as he tears along
the dotted line division between coming
and going)?  It’s like a time line skipping
from moment to moment and not lines
drawn defiantly in the sand, immoveable
until the tide comes in and erases them all.
A straight line is the shortest path between
two points of view but is not the same
thing as a party line on which everyone
talks the same talk, toeing the line
and falling for a line that keeps
curving until it comes back to
                                    where it all began.
